Pawel Wysocki artist portrait

I was born in 1993 and grew up in rural Poland, where I made my first collages by secretly cutting pages from my mum’s Twój Styl (Your Style) magazines — think Vogue, but from Eastern Europe. Those glossy spreads were my secret window into another world: full of colour, glamour, and people who looked like they belonged somewhere exciting.

I vividly remember the 1999 Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier advert — those arm-wrestling sailors in stripes, the air thick with something magnetic and new. It became my little keepsake, the page I looked at over and over. I never cut that one out.

Collage became my way of holding onto that feeling — the thrill of discovery, the joy of composition, and the freedom to make something entirely my own. For years, I kept my work to myself. But now, I want my collages to live with people — in bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways — bringing colour, humour, and a touch of rebellion to the spaces they inhabit. A laugh, a raised eyebrow — something real, and far from the shame I felt for years.

Each collage is handmade, instinctive, and a little bit rebellious — just like the kid who once tore pages from his mum’s magazines and couldn’t stop imagining new worlds.

Please enjoy them.
